MONDAY, APRIL 8TH: Complete Chapter 6 Test. Think Central was experiencing technical difficulty on Friday. 

TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH: Scantron Reading Test

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10TH: Scantron Mathematics Test

Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast, wears comfortable clothes, and gets encouragment from you before he/she leaves each morning. 

Several students are experiencing "Spring Fever" lately, You may want to look for the following signs:

  • doesn't complete classwork or homework
  • isn't prepared for class (pencils, paper, textbooks)
  • not bringing home papers or notifications to be signed
  • student not putting best effort for assignments

If your child is experiencing any of the signs of "Spring Fever", you may want to cure him/her before progress reports or reports cards. 



Week of March 18th
Due Date: 3/18/2019
Subject: Math

Math: We will be learning about equivalent fractions and fractions with common denominators. We will taking our multiplication facts (0-12) quiz on Tuesday.

Science: We will be continuing Chapter 2 about speed. 



Week of February 25th
Due Date: 2/25/2019
Subject: Math

Math: We will be learning about fraction equivalence and comparison in Chapter 6 this week. 

Science: We will be learning about light energy and heat this week. 

Kona Ice will be Friday! 



Week of February 20th
Due Date: 2/20/2019
Subject: Math

Math: We will be having a Midchapter Checkpoint Quiz on Chapter 5 on Wednesday. We will be reviewing on Tuesday. A parent notification will be sent home on Wednesday. We will continue learning about factors and multiples on Friday. 

Science: We will continue learning about energy in Chapter 1. 



Week of January 21, 2019
Due Date: 1/22/2019
Subject: Math

Math: We are continuing Chapter 4 this week about division.

Science: We will be finishing Chapter 5 with an open book test on Friday.

Weekly folders will be sent home Tuesday. 



Week of January 7th
Due Date: 1/6/2019
Subject: Math

Math: We will be taking the 2nd Edmentum Diagnostic test this Tuesday. We will also be taking our multiplication fact 0-12 this Tuesday. We will then begin learning about division on Wednesday! Yay!

Science: We will be learning about fossils this week.

Announcements:

Report Cards: Report cards were sent home today. The results of Spring 2018 testing are attached to the report cards. 

 



Week of December 10th
Due Date: 12/15/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be reviewing on Monday and Tuesday for a Chapter 3 Post Test which will be taken on Wednesday. A parent notification will be sent home on Monday. We will have our multiplication quiz 0-12 on Tuesday.

Science: We will be learning about fossils this week. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Thursday, December 13th: As you know from the letter sent home last week, our Christmas Party will be from 8:00-10:00. We are asking for $3.00 to pay for a sausage biscuit and a drink. Due to the fact that we have to place an order, Tuesday is the deadline for money. Students are welcome to bring other goodies for their homerooms. We are also having a school dance that day. The cost of the dance is $3.00 and there will be refreshments for sale during the dance.

 



Week of December 3rd
Due Date: 12/7/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be learning how to multiply with regrouping (old school-the way we learned how) and learning some problem solving strategies. We will also have a multiplication facts 0-12 quiz this Tuesday. 

Science: We will be learning about renewable and non-renewable resources in Chapter 5. We will also be completing a couple of interactive notebook activities, too.

ANNOUNCEMENTS;

  • Multiplication Quiz: We will have our multiplication facts 0-12 quiz on Tuesday. This is a "bank it" week for many students. If your child earned an "A" on last week's test, just sign and return the test sent home today and he/she can "bank it" until the next week. 
  • "Countdown to Christmas Vacation": Our school is doing several activities to count down to Christmas Vacation. Monday-Students will be given the essay topic: What do the Christmas Holidays mean to you? The best essay will be recognized at the December 14th Student of the Month. 


Week of November 26th
Due Date: 11/30/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be learning how to multiply 2-digit by 2-digit whole numbers this week. We will also be taking the  Mid-Chapter Checkpoint Quiz for Chapter 3 on Friday. Our multiplication facts quiz (0-12) will be Tuesday. Everyone will be taking the quiz-it's not a "bank it" week. 

Science: We will be learning how living things affect the environment and about natural resources. We will be taking a couple of grades this week. We will taking an open book test on these two lessons on Friday. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Progress Reports: If your child was checked out on the field trip on the 16th, he/she will be coming home today with his/her progress report. Please discuss the report with your child and send it back to schoo signed as soon as possible.
  • Weekly Folders: Weekly Folders will be sent home on Tuesday. 
  • School Supplies: Please check with your child to see if he/she needs school supplies-pencils, looseleaf paper, color pencils, etc. Many of our students are coming to school unprepared for class. Thanks!


Week of November 12th
Due Date: 11/12/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We are beginning Chapter 3 which will cover multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. We will also have our multiplication facts 0-9 quiz Wednesday. Everyone will be taking it-this is not a "bank" week. When we get back from Thanksgiving Break, our multiplication facts test will be on facts 0-12. Please continue to encourage your child to do REFLEX during the break.

Science: We will begin learning about habitats and biomes this week in Chapter 5. We will be taking a couple of grades this week. 

Announcements:

Thursday, November 15th-Homeroom Spelling Bee: Our homeroom spelling bee will be held this day. Everyone is encouraged to participate. The homeroom winner from each class will move on to the school spelling bee. Everyone was given the list-it was on a bright pink piece of paper. 

Friday, November 16th-Zoo Field Trip: Please dress appropriately for the field trip-we will be outside. If your child is bringing his/her lunch, please pack it in a disposable sack. Since our school lunches do not require a cooler, we will not be taking one on the trip.

Monday, November 19th-Friday, November 23rd-THANKSGIVING BREAK! I hope everyone has a safe and restful break during this week. 

 



Week of November 5th
Due Date: 11/5/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be reviewing for our Chapter 2 test on Monday and Tuesday. The chapter test will be WEDNESDAY. A test notification was sent home with your child on Monday. 

Science: We will begin learning about ecoystems in Chaper 5.

ANNOUNCEMENTS;

  • We will be having our classroom spelling bee on Thursday, November 15th. A list of the words will be sent home with your child on Moday, November 5th. Ask your child to see the hot pink spelling paper. Everyone is expected to participate in the classroom spelling bee. 


Week of October 29th
Due Date: 10/29/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be having our Chapter 2 Test on Friday. There is a Chapter 2 Review on Think Central and we will be reviewing Chapter 2 skills. You can view this study guide in our math book on pages 137-142. Our multiplication facts 0-9 quiz will be Wednesday. 

Science: We will be having an Open Book Chapter test on Tuesday. 

Annoucements:

  • Our Zoo Field Trip is going to be Thursday, November 1st. If your child signed up to bring his/her lunch, please place it in a throw away bag. This way your child will have one less thing to keep up with at the zoo. :) 
  • We are using Edmentum and IXL in class. Your child has certain assignments to complete by a deadline. Please encourage your child to complete these assignments. 
  • Kona Ice will be here Friday, November 2nd. 


Week of October 22nd
Due Date: 10/27/2018
Subject: Math

Math:  We will be continuing to learn about multiplying whole numbers by 1 digit. Some of you will be happy about this-we will be learning the strategy that we learned as children aka "old school" multiplication. Our multiplication facts 0-9 quiz will be Wednesday. 

Science: We will be attempting to finish Chapter 4 this week. 

Announcements: 

  • Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week is this week. A flyer was sent home with your child about our dress up days. If your child didn't t bring it home, you may view the school's website or the school Facebook page. 
  • Weekly Folders: Weekly folders will be sent home on Tuesday.
  • Report Cards: If you weren't able to attend Parent Conference Day on Monday, report cards will be sent home on Tuesday. 


Week of October 15th
Due Date: 10/20/2018
Subject: Math

Math: Yup, we are still working on multiplying 1 digit numbers by whole numbers. Our MidChapter Checkpoint Quiz will be Wednesday. We will be going over the study guide in class, working each problem together, and reviewing skills on Tuesday. The multiplication facts 0-9 quiz will be moved to WEDNESDAY.

Science: We will be finishing up Chapter 4 this week. We will be having an open book/notebook  test on Friday. A study guide will be provided and reviewed on Thursday. Again, the test is open book/notebook.

Announcements:

  • Monday, October 22nd: Parent Conference Day-kids will not attend school. Our team sent home a notice last Thursday-ask your child about this notice if you did not get it. It was sent home in the Weekly Folder. Report cards will be available to be picked up. If you are unable to come that day, report cards will be sent home Tuesday.
  • Tuesday, October 23rd-Friday, October 26th:  RED RIBBON WEEK-a notice was sent home last week.


Week of October 10th
Due Date: 10/12/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We are continuing to learn to multiply using partial products in Lessons 2.6 and 2.7 this week. On Thursday, we will be having our weekly multiplication facts 0-9 quiz. Due to the fact the this is our first 0-9 quiz, everyone will be taking it. The kids are sooooo excited! Tears came to their little cherub eyes from the excitement of the quiz.

Science: We will be learning about animal adaptations and inherited traits this week.

WEEKLY FOLDERS WILL BE SENT HOME THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11TH.

Announcements:    

  • Friday, October 12th: The 1st Nine Weeks Session will end on this day. 
  • Friday, October 12th: Field Trip permission form and money is due.
  • Thursday, November 1st: 4th Grade Field Trip to Birmingham Zoo


Week of October 4th
Due Date: 10/5/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will learn how to multiply using the Distributive Property, using expanded form, and using partial products. We will be having our multiplication facts 0-7 test on Thursday. We will be kicking it up a notch next week and will move on to facts 0-9. 

Science: We will be learning about animal and plant adaptations. 

Announcement/Important Dates:

  • Wednesday, October 3rd: JIS Animal Show-the cost is $3.00
  • Thursday, October 4th: Multiplication Facts 0-7 Quiz; Please encourage your child to learn his/her multiplication facts. As you know from reviewing your child's homework, we have begun learning how to multiply. These skills are easier to master when multiplicatin facts are mastered. 
  • Friday, October 5th: Kona Ice-the cost is $3.00 and up depending on what the kids' hearts desire.
  • Monday, October 8th and Tuesday, October 9th: FALL BREAK!!!!


Week of September 24th
Due Date: 9/29/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will begin Chapter 2 about multiplication. This week we will be learning about multiplication comparisons and how to multiply tens, hundreds, and thousands. Our multiplication facts 0-7 quiz will be Thursday. Please encourage your child to practice these facts daily. 

Science: We will be learning about animal adaptations and how plants produce food.

Other Items of Importance:

  • Multiplication Facts: As you know, we have been working on multiplication tables. We have been taking weekly quizzes and the results have been sent home. Beginning this week, if your child earns a score of less than 80%, he/she is to write their 4s, 5s, 6s, and 7s multiplication facts. A note came home attached to the quizzes on Monday of those students who are assigned this homework. 
  • Weekly Folders: Weekly Folders were sent home on Monday. 


Week of September 17th
Due Date: 9/17/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be preparing for our Chapter 1 Test this week on Thursday. The Chapter 1 Review on pages 55-60 will be broken down between 2 days and will be worked in class. There will also be a Chapter 1 Review/Homework provided online thru our Think Central website. Our students will be able to work these problems in class and ask questions. The review and the online review are VERY similiar to the test-WINK, WINK. On Thursday, we will be taking a multiplication facts 0-7 quiz. 

Science: We will be learning about animal adaptations and how plants produce food.

  • School Dance: Friday, September 21st-the cost is $5.00. There will be a concession stand at the dance if your child would like to purchase refreshments.

Week of September 10th:
Due Date: 9/15/2018
Subject: Math

Math: We will be learning how to add/subtract whole numbers and to draw a diagram to solve comparison problems this week. Our multiplication facts (0-5) quiz will be Thursday. Students who earned a 90% or higher may "bank" the test. All he/she has to do is bring back the test signed by a parent on Tuesday. Late submissions will not be accepted. 

Science: We will learn how plants produce food and about animal adaptations. We will be completing a couple of interactive science activities this week in our notebook. 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Progress Reports will be sent home Tuesday, September 11th.
  • REFLEX: Please encourage your student to earn the green light in REFLEX. Reflex is a program used on a daily basis in our class. Students have been told that a quiz grade will be taken on September 18th. This grade will be based on his/her percentage. They are more than welcome to do REFLEX at home.   • MULTIPLICATION QUIZ: We will be kickin' it up a notch on our multiplication facts quiz on the 20th. Our test will be based on multiplication facts 0-7. The kiddos may want to start practicing.

Math: We will be taking our Chapter 1 Checkpoint Quiz on Wednesday. We will review in class on Monday, and a review will be sent home. Please ask your child about this review. We will also be learning to rename numbers and add this week. On Thursday, we will be taking a multiplication facts quiz (0-5). Please continue to work with your child on these facts. 

Science: We will continue to learn about classifying plants and animals. We will be completing two interactive science activities in our notebooks.

Announcments:

  • Kona Ice will be coming Friday. If you would like for your child to participate, please send money on Friday.
  • Please remember that our homework assignements are posted daily on my calendar.

Subject: Math
  • Our schedule will be different this week. We will be taking our Edmentum Testing and Global Scholar Testing in both reading and math. 
  • Math-we will be learning the following skills: 

           -Read and write whole numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded form.

          - Compare and order whole numbers based on the values of the digits in each number.

  • Science: we will be covering the following concepts:

          -Classifying plants and animals
